Gwalia gold mine in Australia
If you want to see how tough miners lived in the early part of the 20th century, then the Gwalia Heritage Precinct is a must see. A lot of the Ghost Town was relocated in the 1970s (due to the expansion of the gold mine) and preserved by local sponsors.The State Hotel is a grand statement of its day (1903).

Great place to visit. Overnight free camp available in the Carpark. Need to be self sufficient. Apparently patrolled. Short walk to the ghost town.
